A Modern Twist to Traditional Auctions

Posted online

The landscape of auctions is changing. What could once only take place in person with a live bidding audience can now all happen online with a national audience of bidders. Laredo Stevens, auctioneer and owner of Stevens Auction Services, who began his auctioneering journey in 2006 at just 18 years old, shares his insight about the transition from traditional live auctions to the digital realm.

“At first, I was a staunch advocate of live auctions,” Stevens admitted, “but as online platforms gained traction, I realized the immense potential they offer.”

The shift to online auctions was gradual but transformative. Initially, Stevens integrated online bidding alongside live auctions, offering buyers the convenience of participating remotely. However, things shifted massively when he introduced fully online auctions within the local Greater Springfield area, pioneering a novel approach to estate and real estate auctions.

“With online auctions, every item receives meticulous attention, from cataloging to showcasing,” Stevens explained. “Buyers can bid from the comfort of their homes, revolutionizing the auction experience.”

The advantages of online auctions are numerous. Not only do they attract a broader audience, but they also streamline the bidding process and enhance accessibility. Stevens emphasizes the broader reach of online auctions, citing examples of items sold to buyers across state lines, a feat unattainable in traditional auctions.

Moreover, the efficiency and convenience of online auctions are unparalleled. “No more standing in the rain for hours,” Stevens said. “Buyers can bid on the go, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free transaction.”

Despite his initial reservations, Stevens acknowledges the superiority of online auction platforms in certain scenarios. “The days of traditional estate sales may be dwindling,” he noted, “but the potential for growth and profitability in online auctions is boundless.”

Looking ahead, Stevens remains optimistic about the future of online auctions. He envisions a broader adoption of digital platforms, predicting a paradigm shift in the auctioning landscape.
