2021 Trusted Advisers Wealth Manager: Tyler Stevens

Commerce Financial Advisors

It takes more than just a plan to achieve financial success. Financial adviser Tyler Stevens says he helps clients see beyond their plan to implement strategies and work through some of their toughest financial times as they age.

“My goal is to listen to the client and identify their needs, then explain solutions and implement that plan,” says Stevens, a vice president at Commerce Financial Advisors, a division of Commerce Bank. “From there, I conduct regular reviews to help us stay on track. In my 11 years as a financial adviser, I have been fortunate to help many clients achieve their financial dreams and more.”

Working with 346 clients last year with a combined net worth of $150 million, Stevens says his management portfolio exceeds $53 million in assets.

He says the tools he uses are through asset protection, income retirement, and estate, business and long-term planning. Relationship building also plays a key part, he says, in guiding clients in whatever direction they need to go to achieve their goals.

“I am not just a financial adviser, but a counselor, life coach and confidant, in helping clients navigate their retirement years,” Stevens says. “As life brings changes, both good and bad, I am there every step of the way. Clients know they can call our office, if even to vent and be reassured that things will be all right. I help clients with the unexpected, and keep them on track to achieve their long-term financial goals.”

The call goes above and beyond when Stevens points clients in the right direction for a reliable attorney or helps them find a place to buy a quality car.

With an eye on continuing his professional education, Stevens’ next step is to become a chartered retirement planning counselor and an accredited asset management specialist.

He says in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that things are changing every day and that staying on top of the changes regionally, nationally and globally in the economy and the stock market, is vital in this business.

“I do continuing education to ensure I am up to date on all industry-related investment matters, to best serve my clients,” Stevens says.

“Lately, many are considering retiring before they had originally planned, before the pandemic. This keeps us on our toes by doing in-depth financial plans using MoneyGuidePro software to determine if we can produce and sustain enough income for our clients in retirement.”

Outside of the office, he plans to join Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks as a Big Brother this year.

“I am very excited to make a difference in the life of a youth,” he says.

Kyle Zelinsky, regional vice president at Pacific Life Retirement Solutions, has partnered with Stevens for over three years.

“He is passionate to always do right for the client, above all else. He is diligent to discover the goals, objectives and additional factors that may play into the client’s current state of affairs,” says Zelinsky, who works with over 50 firms and 1,500 advisers. “The level of care is unparalleled to many advisers that I work with.”
