The Ozarks have caught the eye of USA Today readers.
Silver Dollar City’s An Old Time Christmas attraction is once again the top theme park holiday event; Chateau on the Lake Resort, Spa & Convention Center ranked in the top 10 in a separate survey; and downtown Springfield’s History Museum on the Square is tracking at No. 1 in another contest.
All are participants in reader polls via USA Today’s 10Best.com.
An Old Time Christmas won its category for the third-consecutive year and the fourth time in five years, according to a news release from Silver Dollar City.
“The fact that An Old Time Christmas has clenched the award for the fourth time speaks to the caliber of the event,” said Lydia Schrandt, senior photo editor and readers’ choice production manager of USA Today’s 10Best, in the release. “10Best readers love the holidays, and the best theme park holiday event award is always one of our most hotly contested categories.”
Running through Dec. 30, an Old Time Christmas features 6.5 million lights installed throughout the park. The new centerpiece is a $1.5 million, eight-story Christmas tree and light show in the Town Square, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
No. 2 went to Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood. The Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, theme park is operated by Herschend Family Entertainment along with Silver Dollar City and others.
Also in Branson, Chateau on the Lake was voted as the No. 6 best hotel for the holidays in a 10Best poll. No. 1 went to The Roosevelt New Orleans.
“Branson takes the Christmas season seriously, and Chateau on the Lake is no exception,” the hotel’s 10Best profile reads. “The entire property gets a holiday makeover, and the culinary team builds an entire gingerbread village from 300 pounds of sugar, 120 pounds of eggs and 600 pounds of candy.”
In Springfield, the downtown History Museum currently ranks No. 1 on a 10Best readers’ choice survey of the best new attractions. Voting continues through noon on Dec. 30, with winners slated to be announced Jan. 10.
“The history of Route 66 comes alive at the new Springfield History Museum on the Square, where six galleries tell the stories of Springfield’s founders, the Mother Road, the Civil War in the area and regional Native American culture,” the museum’s 10Best profile reads.
At 154 Park Central Square, the museum opened in August after a five-year, more than $12 million renovation project, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
Missouri State University’s science building, built in 1971 and formerly called Temple Hall, is being reconstructed and updated.
