Editor’s note: The role of the Trusted Advisers is to build strong relationships that help their clients’ businesses and lives run smoothly. Last year’s Legacy Adviser Virginia Fry embodied the best of what this award represents, and thankfully, her peers had the opportunity to publicly acknowledge her efforts. After a 38-year career in law, Fry died from cancer in November 2018. The guest column introducing Trusted Advisers is typically written by the previous year’s Legacy Adviser. Here, Bryan Wade writes on behalf of his former colleague and friend.

This article is to congratulate the 2019 Trusted Advisers class, but I am sorry to be writing it.
As many of you remember, my partner and friend Virginia Fry was named the 2018 Trusted Advisers’ Legacy Adviser and was then unexpectedly taken from us in November 2018. But for her passing, these would be her words.
Although Virginia was not one to brag about herself, in my view, she was the epitome of what an adviser should be: skilled, professional, experienced, discreet and – most importantly – honest.
I expect because you have been recognized for your adviser skills that you exhibit many or all of these traits. I applaud you and hope you continue exhibiting those characteristics as you serve your clients and customers. Special kudos to Judy Hadsall for her recognition as the 2019 Legacy Adviser.
My challenge to all of you is to share your skills and mentor others in your organization to perpetuate these adviser skills.
Virginia was the rock of our team. If I could go back in time, I would spend more time picking her brain about her successful strategies and choices as an adviser. My opportunity is now lost. I hope that you will not let the opportunity pass, and I think you will be a stronger adviser for it.
Congratulations again, and enjoy the success! Keep doing what you’re doing, and I hope you will share your expertise with others.
