Description: A Barry County Health Department building under construction in Cassville will nearly triple the space of its current 1930s building – one that operated as a restaurant through the 1940s and was purchased for the Health Department in 1952, according to Bay Mourer, business development officer from Nabholz Construction. The department serves public health needs, including adult, community and women’s health, immunizations, testing and screening, education, environmental services, vital records, and the federal special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children, known as WIC. The new building will have space for the county’s Health and Environmental Services departments, and it will include a vaccine lab, exam rooms, environmental lab and drive-thru for immunizations. It will also have offices for administrators, nurses, a health educator, a WIC nutritionist and coordinator, and a peer counselor, Nabholz officials say.
