US census kicks off in rural Alaska

The 2020 census has begun in a remote fishing village in Alaska.

U.S. Census Bureau Director Steven Dillingham made a ceremonial visit to a tribal elder, Lizzie Chimiugak Nenguryarr, 90, in Toksook Bay. Census workers typically start in January in Alaska, when the ground is frozen enough to traverse.

Most of the country's residents will be counted from mid-March.
