This hay barn, completed in 1997 for Primatara Thoroughbred Farm, is a central storage barn to be used for the cattle and thoroughbred horses housed on the approximately 20-acre farm. The challenge in this case was to design a structure that would harmonize with owners Robert and Lawana Low's future stables and residence. Rich materials, including limestone, stucco and precast concrete are combined to enhance the functional character of the design.
The farm's logo is cast into the concrete lintel over the pair of massive cherry stained doors. The logo is recalled in the gable vent and window frames. An elliptical clerestory runs the full ridge of the roof, providing ventilation and a distinctive profile. All these elements combine to portray the elegance and classical designs characteristic of thoroughbred breeding farms.[[In-content Ad]]
