State gas prices sit 17 cents below national average

Average Missouri gasoline prices fell 4.5 cents per gallon during the week of June 6-12, averaging $3.54 per gallon yesterday. The state average is 17 cents lower than the national average, which dropped 5.1 cents per gallon during the week.

Statewide, prices were 23.3 cents per gallon lower yesterday than the same day last month, but the average is $1.05 per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average yesterday, $3.71 per gallon, is 23.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and $1.01 per gallon higher than a year ago, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

As of 10:30 a.m., the least expensive gas in Missouri was available for $3.25 per gallon at two stations in Lebanon, while the most expensive gas could be found for $3.79 per gallon at two stations in Monett and Kansas City, according to MissouriGasPrices.com

The cheapest gas in Springfield was $3.38 per gallon, available at Sam's Club on 3660 E. Sunshine St. The most expensive was available for $3.49 per gallon at Phillips 66, 7043 W. State Highway EE.

Missouri recorded the eighth-lowest gas price average in the nation this morning, falling behind South Carolina at the top spot and adjacent states Mississippi, No. 2; Tennessee, No. 3; Arkansas, No. 5; and Oklahoma, No. 7.

The U.S. price per barrel for crude oil was $105.36 as of June 3, compared to $68.26 per barrel a year before, according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Light sweet crude oil futures for July were trading at $98.81 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange as of 10:32 a.m., compared to $99.89 a week ago, according to the CME Group.
