Springfield T-Mobile to hire 300 employees in 2011

Posted online
The T-Mobile USA Inc. Customer Service Center, 2645 N. Airport Plaza Ave., will hire 300 employees for customer service jobs, positions that have opened due to transfers, promotions and natural attrition, according to a company official.

About 100 employees will be hired during the first quarter of 2011, starting Jan. 10. More than 200 more will be employed throughout the year, at the rate of about 30 per month, said Mark Conrad, general manager of the Springfield location.

The open positions offer payment of about $10.50-$12.50 an hour, he said.

The call center has about 760 employees currently, including 80 part-time workers, according to Springfield Business Journal coverage.

Conrad said the move to fill the open positions was approved by corporate headquarters. No government incentives were offered.

"It will continue to ensure that we maintain the level of employees here in Springfield that we committed to the city and the community and the state," he said. "This will fulfill on that commitment and continue to help us be full, if you will."

Conrad encouraged people in the Springfield area looking for work to apply online.

Customer service employees must have a high school diploma or a GED and have customer service experience, he said.'

The Springfield T-Mobile location was recognized as the No. 2 Choice Employer in the 301+ employees category during SBJ's Choice Employers award ceremony held Nov. 11.
