Joplin is exploring the possibility of constructing an aquatic park.
A committee of city officials has met with representatives of several consulting firms being considered for an aquatic park study. The committee will recommend one of the firms to the Joplin City Council. The council allocated money for the study in this year's budget. The firm selected is to complete the study in 90 days.
The firm will determine whether there is local interest in an aquatic park and, if so, what type of park should be built. The study will also look at possible locations and financing options.
The study will determine whether an existing pool could be expanded and upgraded for use as a water park. It will also explore the fate of the city's three pools if a water park is built.
