Joplin is gearing up to get its first taste of authentic Japanese cuisine.

The Kyoto Japanese Restaurant is slated to open by mid-April.

Peter Chen, a Taiwan native, named the restaurant in honor of the ancient Japanese capital city

The family has had other restaurants in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Salem and Rolla, Mo.

Among the many items the menu will carry are Sushi, flown in from Chicago and San Francisco, and sake.
