American Water Works Company Inc., the holding company for Joplin's Missouri American Water Co., has announced its intention to buy National Enterprise Inc.
The purchase will make it the largest water utility acquisition in the United States.
National Enterprises Inc. is a privately owned company which provides water service to more than 1.7 million people in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and New York.
The transaction is valued at $700 million.
