Zacson Corp., a Joplin telemarketing firm, announced plans Feb. 7 to immediately hire 300 more employees. Another 300 could be added later in the year.

Christine Duncan, operations manager, said the company is expanding its Joplin facility "because of the combination of good employees, low operating costs and excellent telecommunications infrastructure."

The pay scale for the new jobs will range from $6.50 to $12.50 per hour, with openings on both day and night shifts.

About 200 employees now work at Zacson, which opened in Joplin in 1990. The company has relocated in the city three times to accommodate growth.

"This is a significant vote of confidence on behalf of the company and the community," said Rob O'Brian, president of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce. "It's always exciting to hear about a company moving to Joplin, but it's even more exciting when one of our local firms expands."

The company operates several call centers, such as the one in Joplin, for a variety of clients, including Sun Microsystems and Pacific Bell. Duncan said the local office uses an automatic dialer that beeps a telephone sales representative each time someone answers the telephone. Zacson will add another automatic dialer as part of the expansion.
