Some Carthage residents employed by Schreiber Foods Inc. will be jobless by mid-July.
The company will close its bacon plant at 1112 Fairview Ave., affecting more than 160 workers, who will be laid off between July 6 and July 19.
Schreiber's cheese plant at 127 Claxton St. will remain open. However, another of the company's bacon-processing plants in Illinois will also close.
A spokesperson for the company
said the closings come after the company decided to focus on its main food products.
The company will offer transfers to other jobs for those laid off.
