According to the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Branson slipped to the No. 2 destination spot in the nation behind Washington, D.C., in 1999 as voted on by the National Motorcoach Network.
Branson was voted as the top destination in 1998. Nashville, New York and Orlando were in the top five; Myrtle Beach and Pigeon Forge placed sixth and eighth, respectively.
January construction hits four-year high
The city of Branson reports that total construction values for January were $7.6 million the highest one-month total in four years. More than $6 million of that total is for the new Skaggs Community Health Center Medical Mall, under construction on North Business Highway 65.
The city also reported its campground revenue was up 26 percent for the months of October through December of 1998, compared to the same three-month period last year. The increase was attributed to a combination of unseasonably warm weather and Ozark Mountain Christmas.
