The Salvation Army in Springfield is closer to meeting its annual red kettle campaign goal with completed matching donation campaigns from a pair of businesses.
Jeff Smith, development director of the local Salvation Army chapter, said Bass Pro Shops matched $25,000 in donations made to the nonprofit’s signature red kettles at the retailer's flagship store, 621 W. Sunshine St., through Christmas Eve.
Additionally, a campaign by Pinegar Advantage earlier in December is bringing $15,000 in funds to the nonprofit. Smith said Pinegar dealerships in Springfield, Branson and Republic provided $100 for every $20 bill dropped into red kettles. Additionally, an anonymous donor contributed $5,000 through the campaign, he said.
"The Salvation Army is grateful for both matches," Smith said. "Those matches are crucial in boosting our goal."
The Salvation Army's 2022 Red Kettle Love Has an Army Campaign had hit roughly 60% of its goal just before Christmas, Smith said. Final numbers are slated to be disclosed in January.
The campaign's goal is roughly $1 million.
