Ozarks Food Harvest holds children's lunch fundraiser

Posted online
Starting today and continuing until Monday, Ozarks Food Harvest is holding its Hungerthon 2011 radio fundraiser via Clear Channel Radio's Alice 95.5 FM.

Proceeds of the fundraiser will go toward the Ozarks Food Harvest Weekend Backpack Program, which provides children in need a backpack of food to take home on the weekends, according to a news release.

The event, which runs today from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., allows listeners to call in at (417) 577-7955 to sponsor a child's backpack for a year at $300 or a semester at $150. Monthly donations also are accepted.

Money raised will sponsor children for the 2011-2012 school year.

Last year's event raised more than $120,000 in cash and brought in secured food donations, which provided 400 at-risk children with six meals each weekend for the entire school year, the release said.

Ozarks Food Harvest hopes to raise $125,000 during Hungerthon 2011.

As in previous year years, Alice 95.5 FM's Kevin Howard and Liz Delany will host the event.

Ozarks Food Harvest serves more than 300 hunger relief organizations in 28 counties.[[In-content Ad]]
