Mitchem Tires, which has two Springfield locations and has been in business for 59 years, has expanded to Ozark. A new building at 855 N. 17th St., comprising 4,000 square feet and five service bays, opened Oct. 19. Mitchem Tires is at the intersection of state highways 65 and 14, next to the new Village Inn.
The company sells new and used Bridgestone, Firestone, Dayton and Michelin tires, as well as wheels. Services include brakes, alignments, struts, shocks, lube and oil. "We do more than just tires. We do everything other than major motor repair," said partner Ed Mitchem.
The store is open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Mitchem Tires will have six employees, and Brad Dunn will serve as manager.
"We think we're the oldest tire dealer in Springfield," said to partner Ed Mitchem. His company's slogan is "Before you switch 'em see Mitchem."
"We've received a good reception in Ozark and are quite pleased with being there," Mitchem said. "The town is real friendly, and the city was great to work with as far as construction and getting the project going."
