Education Evangel University Spanish professor Eliezer Oyola published “Poemas Frente al Mar,” a book of 60 illustrated Spanish poems. Oyola has written several books, articles and book reviews in the United States, Spain and Puerto Rico. Oyola has been a member of Evangel’s faculty since 1976, and holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Maryland.
Drury University Department of Languages received a $20,000 grant from the C.W. Titus Foundation to fund 10 scholarships for foreign language study abroad.
Saundra Ohern, assistant professor of accounting at Evangel, earned her Doctor of Business Administration with specialization in financial management from Northcentral University in Arizona. A member of Evangel’s faculty since 2003, Ohern is a certified public accountant with a bachelor’s in accounting from Evangel and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Robert Pavlowsky, professor of geography, geology and planning at Missouri State University, received a $47,312 grant from the city of Springfield to assist in evaluating the water quality effects of biosolids as fertilizer on hay fields. This grant will be used to support graduate students in geospatial science and natural and applied sciences.
Finance Sumer Tripp, administrative assistant with Trust Company of the Ozarks, completed the Cannon Trust I course presented by Cannon Financial at Boston University. The course focused on fiduciary law and trust matters.
Insurance Jeff Oedewaldt, a sales representative with Liberty Mutual Insurance, received the company’s Lamplighter Award for outstanding sales performance. Oedewaldt joined Liberty Mutual in 2009 and also has earned the company’s Pursuit of Excellence and Pacesetter awards.
Law Evans & Dixon LLC named Heather C. Rowe as a senior associate in the firm’s workers’ compensation practice. Along with industry experience in government, Rowe’s case experience includes amputations, assaults/violent acts, carpal tunnel syndrome, contact with objects and equipment, transportation incidents and upper extremities. Rowe received a bachelor’s in elementary education from Boise State University and a law degree from the University of Idaho.
Nonprofit Care to Learn named Stephanie Stenger Montgomery to its board of directors. Montgomery is a founding member of Isabel’s House and serves on the board of directors of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Boy Scouts of America’s Ozark Trails Council honored KY3 TV’s Ned Reynolds with the 2010 Distinguished Citizen Award, which is presented annually to an individual who serves the community through volunteer efforts and leadership.
Media Mark Williams was named director of operations Dec. 1 for Joplin Tri-State Business Journal. Williams manages the Joplin office with an emphasis on increasing advertising revenue and cultivating business partnerships. Williams spent the last year in downtown Joplin development projects, most recently opening the Hive, a business center that houses 13 small businesses.
Public Relations Christine Daues, former anchor at KSPR TV, joined 2balance LLC as a marketing and community relations specialist. Daues has nearly 20 years of experience in broadcast news and worked for Springfield-based Noble in 2004.
