New State of the Art Facility for Russell Cellular

Posted online

Locally owned and operated Russell Cellular has been experiencing tremendous growth and is celebrating by opening a new corporate headquarters. The groundbreaking was October of 2018 and employees moved in November 2019.

Director of Executive Support, Layton Alsup says even more growth is on deck for Russell Cellular. “We were out of space in our old offices and because of that some departments were unable to hire for new positions.”

Alsup says the move has allowed the company to create several openings in the corporate office for full time staff with benefits. “We’ve grown so much and need more people and just didn’t have anywhere to put them.” Since October of 2018, the company has seen a 67% jump in corporate level employees and a 42% increase in retail workers and other employees. In that same time frame, Russell Cellular also expanded from 31 to 37 states.

Alsup stresses that time and care went into designing a building that makes employees feel excited to come to work. Located in Battlefield, the new 40,000 square foot building is packed with amenities including:
• Expansive break room
• Lounge areas
• Marketplace
• Library
• Game room
• Rec room
• Multiple coffee cafe’s
• Training room
• Nursing/wellness room
• Family room

The original office was built to accommodate 26 people. The company outgrew that space and had to split among four different buildings between Battlefield and Springfield. The new facility is up to 126 employees and counting. “It’s the first time we’ve all been under one roof in over three years,” says Alsup. Having everyone under one roof makes team building exercises, training, and collaborative projects much easier to facilitate.

Alsup stresses that cofounder Kym Russell wanted the new building to have dedicated places for employees to relax and disconnect when they take breaks in order to ensure a happy and efficient workplace. “She really focused on those public spaces. We have a super large break room and she added a marketplace so people can buy food on site. And the wellness room and library can be dark quiet spaces,” says Alsup.

The family room is full of board games and puzzles and then there’s another game room that has basketball, foosball, a ping pong table and shuffleboard. There are also ample coffee stations throughout the facility. “She wanted it to feel like a home and have people feel comfortable working here and be excited to take breaks.”

With the probability of reaching capacity again, Kym Russell made sure the property purchased would be able to withstand a building expansion of up to 20,000 additional square feet.
