Lunkers pen Bass Pro sponsorship

Posted online

The Ozarks Lunkers made a series of announcements this morning comprising a sponsorship by Bass Pro Shops, a new player and the raffle of a boat to support a local nonprofit.

Monica Henderson, vice president of team operations and minority owner, said at a morning news conference that Springfield-based Bass Pro has signed on as the "boat and tackle" partner of the Lunkers.

"The collaboration marks a significant milestone for us," she said.

Mark Burgess, owner of the Lunkers team that's part of The Arena League, said financial terms of the sponsorship deal with Bass Pro are undisclosed. Through the deal, Bass Pro would advertise the Lunkers in store, he said, in addition to other opportunities.

Burgess said the team is buying a Bass Buggy 16 XL pontoon boat valued at $17,935 from Bass Pro to raffle off at the team's first home game at Wilson Logistics Arena on June 1. Henderson said raffle tickets would be $25 each or five for $100, with all proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks CEO Susan Mellentine said the partnership "will truly make a difference."

"The impact it has on our mission speaks volumes," she said.

During the news conference, Lunkers General Manager Caleb Scott signed football player Ronnie Bertelsmeyer to the team.

Bertelsmeyer, who has experience with the Lutheran Jr. Cougars and the Missouri Valley Pitbulls, is among 17 players signed to date, said Scott. On gameday, 15 players will dress for the game, with three in reserves, he said.

"They bring their value in their versatility," Scott said, noting Bertelsmeyer has an "incredible football IQ."

"Ronnie has a multitude of positions that he plays."
