Springfield businessman John Sellars announced last week his candidacy for the Missouri House of Representatives in 2012.
Sellars, a Springfield native, is running as a Republican candidate for Missouri's 138th District, a seat held by Democrat Sara Lampe, who cannot run for re-election due to term limits. Sellars narrowly lost a bid for the same position in the 2010 election.
“I believe it’s imperative we begin this campaign by talking about what’s most important - getting Missouri working again,” Sellars said in a news release. “We must start electing leaders with successful careers in business, not career politicians, if we are going to get our economy back on track.”
Sellars directs The Fremont retirement community, having left his position of executive director of the Springfield-Greene County History Museum March 31. He also previously worked in management for Ozarks Coca-Cola Dr Pepper Bottling Co. and Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
Lampe, the House Minority Caucus secretary, was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2004.
