The New York Times obtained more than 400 pages of internal Chinese documents.
The documents provide an inside look into how Chinese officials detained as many as a million Muslim ethnic minorities in detention camps.
The documents included a how-to of sorts for handling questions such as, "Where is my family?"
The documents are said to be one of the most significant leaks of Chinese government papers in decades.
