Judge puts guaranteed basic income initiative on hold in STL

A St. Louis judge has put a guaranteed basic income program from the city on hold amid a lawsuit.

Circuit Judge Joseph P. Whyte said the lawsuit's plaintiffs have made sufficient enough arguments to suspend the program.

The Holy Joe Society alleges in its suit that the program, which pays poor families $500 a month, violates the Missouri Constitution and city charter.
