Illinois state Sen. Thomas Cullerton was indicted by a federal grand jury.
He faces embezzlement charges from before he was a state senator.
Prosecutors allege Cullerton received $275,000 in salary, bonuses, health and pension benefits for doing "little or no work" as a union organizer with Teamsters Local Union 734. The allegations include claims that he fraudulently obtained funding.
