Hy-Vee hires more than 550 for upcoming store

Posted online
In preparation for entering the Springfield market, Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee Inc. has worked with the local office of the Missouri Career Center to hire employees.

Culminating with a hiring fair held last week, Hy-Vee has taken more than 1,000 applications and has hired more than 550 employees for its 1720 W. Battlefield Road store. Hy-Vee started working with the Missouri Career Center in early January and began interviews in early August, according to a news release from the city.

The $17 million, 86,000-square-foot store - across from Dillon's Supermarket on West Battlefield - is slated to open in mid-October.

Last summer, the city approved a community improvement district for the 14.5 acre site, which allows a half-cent sales tax to be charged within the district to fund infrastructure improvements. Hy-Vee is investing nearly $1 million in road upgrades and a new traffic signal at the site, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
