Federal judge approves $70B CVS-Aetna merger

A federal judge yesterday gave formal approval to CVS Health's nearly $70 billion merger with Aetna.

It's the last hurdle for the deal, after the Justice Department gave approval last year on the condition that the companies sell Aetna’s Medicare drug business.

“The markets at issue are not only very competitive today, but are likely to remain so post-merger,” U.S. District Judge Richard Leon wrote in his decision. “Consequently, the harms to the public interest the [opponents] raised were not sufficiently established to undermine the government's conclusion to the contrary.”
