The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the green light for ovarian cancer drug Lynparza to also be used for treatment of pancreatic cancer.
Developers AstraZeneca and Merck say the drug is an advancement in the pharmaceutical industry.
"Patients with advanced pancreatic cancer historically have faced poor outcomes due to the aggressive nature of the disease and limited treatment advances over the last few decades," said Dave Fredrickson, executive vice president of AstraZeneca's oncology business unit, in a statement.
