The Missouri Job Center is again offering free Environmental job training.
The first session of the five-week program starts March 22, followed by a second session in August, according to a news release. Participants will be able to earn 13 certifications, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and mold abatement and asbestos designations.
“We are very excited to continue this program which provides good-paying jobs in a variety of career pathways,” said Cindy Bennett, program manager, in the release. “Currently, we are looking for at least 20 people interested in career training in this exciting field at no cost to the participant."
Dubbed Green for Greene, the initiative is funded by a $200,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant, according to the release. Spokesperson Katherine Trombetta said the Job Center has received three grant rounds from the EPA, with the latest funding going through 2022.
Participants who secure environmental jobs after the training earn an average wage of $16 per hour, according to the program's website.
The Job Center last year announced it was committing Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding toward information technology training in partnership with nonprofit The Geek Foundation. An article showing progress on that effort will be published in Springfield Business Journal's Feb. 15 print edition.
