Curb Appeal: Summer season stays hot for high-end homes

Posted online

After May set a high-end home record for the year, June followed up in second place.

For the monthly editorial series Curb Appeal, Springfield Business Journal compiled a list of 26 single-family homes within city limits that hit the market last month with asking prices of $500,000 or more. The June figure was down from 29 in May but higher than all other months of the year so far.

Combined, the residences listed for sale last month are seeking $20.4 million in their asking prices. That's a slight dip from $20.8 million in May.

A far east Springfield house at 4571 E. Farm Road 144 was the top property in June in terms of listing price. The house, listed for sale at $2 million by Cantrell Real Estate, has six bedrooms and six bathrooms in a New England-style setting, along with a party barn and views of Pearson Creek, according to the Southern Missouri Regional MLS.

In the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors' coverage area, the latest data show the average sale price for a home was $282,092 in May. That's up from $241,944 a year earlier.

Statewide, the average price was $289,511 in May, a 10.8% increase from a year earlier, according to a news release from the Missouri Realtors association. During the month, real estate agents sold 8,138 residential properties, a 1.3% decrease from May 2021.
