Congress launches antitrust probe into Google, Facebook

The House Judiciary Committee announced it would investigate Facebook, Google and other large technology firms over alleged antitrust issues.

"Unwarranted, concentrated economic power in the hands of a few is dangerous to democracy – especially when digital platforms control content," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., tweeted Monday. "The era of self-regulation is over."

Officials said the companies have "extraordinary power over commerce, communication and information online" and allegedly use that power to gain an unfair competitive advantage.
