City's sales tax collections down 13% in February

The city of Springfield's 1 percent sales tax check for February was $2.57 million, down 13 percent compared to $2.94 million in the same month of the prior fiscal year.

February collections are the third-lowest to date this fiscal year, behind August at $1.89 million and November at $2.15 million, according to data from the city. The city's fiscal year began July 1.

The latest sales tax check also was down 21.6 percent compared to the January check, which was $3.28 million.

Year-to-date sales tax revenue is $25.73 million, up 6.9 percent compared to $24.08 million in the same period last fiscal year.

The city receives the 1 percent sales tax checks from the Missouri Department of Revenue.
