City, state election deadlines looming

Posted online
The filing dates for Springfield's regular municipal general election will be Oct. 12 through Nov. 23. The primary election will be held Feb. 8, 2011, and the general election will be held April 5, 2011.

The positions up for grabs are mayor, currently held by Jim O'Neal; General Seat C, currently held by Doug Burlison; General Seat D, currently held by Dan Chiles; Zone 2, currently held by Cindy Rushefsky; and Zone 3, currently held by Jerry Compton, according to a city news release.

Applications and petitions for filing will be available in the city clerk's office, 840 Boonville Ave., during regular office hours.

Those wishing to file petitions must be a qualified city voter, a city resident for at least two years prior to the election and, for the zone seats, must have been a resident of their zones for at least one year prior to the election, the release said.

Zone petitions must have 100 signatures of registered voters in that particular zone, while general petitions must have 200 registered voter signatures within the city limits.

For the state general election - to be held Nov. 2 - the voter registration deadline is Oct. 6.

Greene County deputy registrars can be found at any school, library, college, city hall, university and at the historic courthouse, 940 Boonville Ave. Mail-in registration must be post-marked by Oct. 6, according to a city news release.[[In-content Ad]]
