Compensation & Benefits, a human resource seminar from the Management Development Institute at SMSU, offers its first session 6:30-9:30 p.m. in SMSU's Glass Hall. This three-session course, which continues Feb. 3 and 10, covers federal legislation that affects compensation and benefits, compensation strategies and plans, administering the compensation and benefit system, and legally required benefits. Managing in Today's Organization: Leading from the Middle, exploring the role, responsibilities and expectations of the middle manager, will be offered 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at University Plaza Hotel. This course, from the Management Development Institute at SMSU, may be taken alone or as the core course for the mid-management certificate program. The cost of the seminar is $195. Human Resource Fundamentals, a course of the Management Development Institute at SMSU, will be offered 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at University Plaza Hotel. The course provides an overview of the strategic role human resource personnel play, as well as skill and knowledge development in recruitment and selection, communications, laws and regulations, record keeping and employee compensation. Hiring & Firing: New Rules for the 21st Century, a half-day program sponsored by Associated Industries of Missouri, will focus on the interview process, disciplining employees and dismissing employees. The seminar will walk attendees through the entire employment process in light of recent legislative changes. The cost is $85 for AIM/TRIM members, $135 for prospective members.
