Cabela's plans store near Bass Pro headquarters

Posted online
Bass Prop Shops competitor Cabela's Inc. announced plans yesterday to build a 100,000-square-foot store in Rogers, Ark., about 90 miles southwest of the headquarters of the Springfield-based outdoor retailer.

The store, planned for completion in summer 2012, would be Sidney, Neb.-based Cabela's first retail store in Arkansas. Construction likely will begin early next year, according to a news release.

“It’s always exciting to bring Cabela’s unique retail experience to another state,” Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner said in a news release. “We look forward to sharing our passion for the outdoors with the hunters, anglers and campers of the Natural State.”

Bass Pro doesn't operate an Arkansas store, but it has stores in all other contiguous states except Nebraska and Kentucky. The company operates 56 stores in the U.S. and Canada, according to its Web site.

Among Cabela's 33 stores, it operates three Nebraska stores, one in Missouri (St. Louis), one in Illinois and one in Kansas, according to www.cabelas.com.

Publicly traded Cabela's (NYSE: CAB) posted fiscal 2011 second-quarter revenue of $562.1 million and net income of $22.3 million. In fiscal 2010, the company recorded revenues of $2.7 billion and net income of $112.2 million, according to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

Bass Pro has been ranked by Forbes as the 96th largest private company in the U.S. with estimated 2009 revenues of $3.6 billion.

Cabela's shares were trading at $27.64 as of 10:26 a.m., compared to a 52-week range of $13.93 to $32.37.[[In-content Ad]]
