Bass Pro opens Illinois store today

Posted online
Springfield-based outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops will open its latest store tonight in East Peoria, Ill.

Bass Pro is kicking off the opening by donating 50 cents of every dollar spent at the store tonight to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's More Fish Campaign, a five-year initiative that funds conservation of the nation's fish populations and habitats, according to the East Peoria Times Courier.

NASCAR drivers Jamie McMurray and Tony Stewart and former Chicago Cubs player Andre Dawson, who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will be guests at the event.

Plans for the 150,000-square-foot East Peoria store were announced in May 2010, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

The Springfield megaretailer also has planned stores in Harlingen, Texas, Decatur, Ala., Richmond, Ga., and Montreal in Canada, according to its Web site. Bass Pro also signed a letter of intent to lease a 200,000-square-foot retail store in Sayreville, N.J.
