Husch Blackwell LLP partner Amanda Tummons knew she was on the road to success when she became the go-to for a substantial international client.
“That trust and faith means a lot to me,” Tummons says. “At the point I realized that executives at this Fortune 500 Company specifically wanted to know my opinions and advice, and I was no longer the note-taker in the room, I knew that I was on the right path.”
Tummons practices transactional matters almost exclusively for businesses. Whether she’s advising a client on the risk or risk mitigation in a contract, or advising an individual on setting up a new business, she feels the weight of her responsibilities.
“I am influencing the success of the business,” Tummons says.
She devotes a significant portion of her time to representing entities in the airline and aviation industries. More recently, Tummons has served as counsel for an aviation company seeking a certificate of public convenience and necessity before the U.S. Department of Transportation, authorizing charter operations of Boeing and Airbus Service Company Inc., she says.
“I am currently advising multiple clients regarding commercial use of unmanned aircraft systems, which is a new and emerging area of both the law and business,” Tummons says.
Tummons doesn’t always fly solo, however. She considers herself to be part of a team and is a leader in her practice.
One example of her approach to leadership was directing a group of attorneys, paralegals, staff and client representatives through a client’s purchase of a new business. It involved coordinating practical solutions to problems as they arose.
“It is not my style to simply tell others what to do. Instead, I tend to get in the mix and make sure everyone, including myself, is working together in order to reach the desired outcome,” Tummons says.
Perhaps that’s what has led her to taking on so many leadership roles. Tummons is a member of the recently graduated class 32 of Leadership Springfield.
She’s also served as chairwoman of the Public Affairs Committee for the Junior League of Springfield and on the Springfield Little Theatre Associate Board from 2011-13.
She’s been involved with the Harmony House Board of Directors since 2012, where she served as treasurer, vice-chairwoman and is currently outgoing chairwoman.
Tummons was part of Harmony House’s executive team during the capital campaign that lead to the February opening of its new facility, located at 3404 E. Ridgeview.
“This is by far my most important accomplishment because of how much our new facility is needed in our community,” she says.
“When the new facility opened and I saw the awesome space we have and thought of the lives that will be changed, I honestly could not believe that I got to be a part of that. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.”
Tummons also has proven her leadership skills by being named an Up & Coming Lawyer by Missouri Lawyers Weekly and in Springfield Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, both in 2015.
CrossFit Republic LLC changed ownership; Springfield nonprofit Care to Learn relocated; and the Fresh Gallery in downtown Springfield transitioned into a commercial venture.
