Most marketing professionals hope to have a story go viral sometime in their career. Rob Blevins did it before his 31st birthday – and it was for a great cause to boot. Upon hearing a Little Brother set up a lemonade stand to fund his own adoption, Blevins wrote a press release for local media. By 8 p.m., USA Today had the story and in days it went viral as donations swelled. He is an active member of Springfield Sertoma and has spoken at the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership and the Drury Nonprofit Leadership annual conferences. During his tenure, Big Brothers Big Sisters has increased its market reach and overall recruitment by double digits.
What was your first job? I was as a carhop at Sonic. The tips were pretty incredible. Yes, you should tip at Sonic – especially when it’s cold, raining, snowing. I think working in food service should be mandatory.
What’s your most treasured possession? I’ve had the same old trusty Kelty backpack since I was 15. It’s been with me up and down the Rocky, Ozark and Appalachian mountains. It’s been a part of some of the most memorable moments and experiences of my life.
What about your job would shock clients? We serve kids – pretty much everything they say is shocking. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad and sometimes it’s sad, but it is almost always shocking.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be? To be able to create more superpowers, duh.
