The Trump administration is proposing new food stamp restrictions.
The proposal would cut 3.1 million people from the program and save the federal government $2.5 billion annually.
In 43 states, residents automatically become eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program assistance if they receive benefits from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. The proposal would change that, requiring people who receive TANF benefits to pass a review of their income and assets to receive SNAP assistance, aka food stamps.
