Springfield real estate agent Bernadean McAfee this week officially launched her candidacy for a seat in the state House of Representatives.
McAfee, who operates McAfee Real Estate Group LLC, is slated to appear on the Republican primary ballot on Aug. 6, according to a news release.
"Springfield has been my home for decades, and it’s time our community's voice is heard loud and clear in Jefferson City,” McAfee said in the release. "I’m no career politician. I never imagined I’d be running for public office, but I’m here to get results. We’ve seen what happens when the same people run for office over and over. We need more than just talk – we need action and accountability. The political point-scoring nonsense has got to stop."
McAfee is seeking the District 132 seat currently held by Rep. Crystal Quade, D-Springfield, who is running for governor this year. Democrat Jeremy Dean and Republican Stephanos Freeman also are seeking the seat, according to the unofficial candidate filing list posted on the website of Missouri Secretary of State John Ashcroft's office.
McAfee said she would focus on issues such as government transparency, economic development and public safety.
“Our government should be working for us, making life better for all Missourians, not bogging us down with red tape and bloated bureaucracy,” McAfee said in the release. “It’s time for practical solutions that address our real-world problems."
