New regulations set standards for quality and consistency in the design industry

by Laura Urban

The design profession is constantly growing and changing. Recent growth in Springfield's population provides many opportunities for both commercial and residential designers. The public in general has become more aware of the value of "good" design. In the past few years, legislative and regulatory actions have been instituted to provide consistency and quality of service from the design industry. In defining their respective roles, these regulations provide consumers with a baseline for the types of services offered by both designers and decorators.

In addition, the American Society of Interior Designers is a national association of professional designers that self-governs all aspects of the industry. ASID-registered designers are required to meet educational and business standards. At a minimum, ASID-registered designers provide design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, utilizing specialized knowledge of interior construction, building codes, equipment, materials and furnishings.

The Springfield Design Association is affiliated with the Missouri East ASID chapter in St. Louis. SDA's mission is to provide members with a forum for continuing education and professional advancement of trends in the design field.
