Kansas City-based Spencer Fane LLP, which operates its Springfield office in Farmers Park, announced a new merger agreement.

The law firm is combining with Salt Lake City-based Snow Christensen & Martineau, a company founded in 1886 which has nearly 50 attorneys and two offices, according to a news release. The financial terms were undisclosed for the deal expected to close March 1.

Combined, the firms would have over 500 attorneys across 25 offices nationwide.

“Our teams have come to know each other not only professionally but also personally, which has allowed us to develop a comfort in knowing we are aligned in a number of areas that are central to the identity of our firms, whether in regard to our embrace of humility as a core value, our fierce resolve to win or our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen said in the release. “Our firms recognize these values drive value to our clients, and we are excited to work together to build upon the ways we can be of service to them in new ways as one firm.”

Ross Martin of Proventus Consulting, speaking on behalf of the firms, said Snow Christensen & Martineau's offices in Salt Lake City and St. George, Utah, would operate as Spencer Fane Snow Christensen & Martineau upon completion of the merger. Other Spencer Fane offices are not expected to be impacted.

Spencer Fane ranked No. 4 on Springfield Business Journal's list of the area's largest law firms. The company reported 17 local attorneys, 30 total staff and nine local partners for the SBJ list published in May.
