Ribbon-cutting marks change from Budgetel to Baymont Inn

Posted online

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 11 a.m. Oct. 19 for the Baymont Inn and Suites at 3776 S. Glenstone Ave. The hotel, owned by James River Inns LLC, has operated as the Budgetel Inn. The event is designed to kick off the hotel's new name.

The property is franchised by The Marcus Corporation, owner of Budgetel Inns Inc. The chain will begin operating under the Baymont Inns and Suites name as of Jan. 12, 1999.

The Springfield Baymont Inn and Suites has 107 guest rooms, including 12 suites and 10 rooms with Jacuzzis. The hotel also has an indoor pool and hot tub. Sam Hamra and Gordon Elliott are principals of James River Inns LLC.

A release said that following an extensive review of its Budgetel concept, The Marcus Corporation invested in the Baymont Inns and Suites name, finding that it better appeals to its broad group of business and leisure guests.

In addition to a new name, hotel guests will find new amenities in every room, including voice mail, iron and ironing board, shampoo and hair dryer.

The Marcus Corporation, with headquarters in Milwaukee, is comprised of four divisions: motels, movie theaters, hotels/resorts and restaurants. In addition to the Springfield property, the company operates 152 Budgetel Inns, four Budgetel Inns and Suites and five properties under the new Baymont Inns and Suites name in 30 states.

The company owns five Woodfield Suites in three states; 363 movie screens in four states; one family entertainment center, three hotels and a resort in Wisconsin; one hotel and a resort in California; and one hotel in Minnesota and one resort in Michigan. In addition, the company has 31 KFC restaurants in Wisconsin.

Attending the Oct. 19 ribbon cutting will be Rep. Roy Blunt, Mayor Lee Gannaway, state Sen. Roseann Bentley, state Rep. Jim Kreider, Greene County Presiding Commissioner Dave Coonrod and Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce President Jim Anderson.

Stephen H. Marcus, chairman and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corporation, and G. Edward Wilson, vice president of franchise development for Baymont Inns and Suites, are also set to attend.
