Springfield-based trucking company Prime Inc. has named a new president.
Darrel Hopkins, a company employee since 1994, has taken on the president role, according to a news release. Founder Robert Low is maintaining his CEO role while relinquishing the president position to Hopkins.
"As president of Prime Inc., Darrel Hopkins will oversee the administration of Prime Inc. and some of the company’s ancillary businesses," company officials said in the release. "Robert Low will oversee all trucking operations at Prime Inc."
Hopkins' career at Prime has included roles as controller and head of Success Leasing Inc. Low founded Prime in 1970 in Urbana, where it remained until 1980, according to Prime's website. That's when the company moved to its current headquarters in Springfield.
Prime reported 2022 revenue of over $2.8 billion, which was up nearly 17% from $2.4 billion in 2021, according to Springfield Business Journal list research. The company had nearly 1,500 local employees as of May 2023, ranking it No. 14 on SBJ's list of the area's largest employers.
The company provides a variety of freight transport and logistics trucking services, according to its website.
