Precious Moments founder dies at 85

The founder of Carthage-based Precious Moments has died.

Precious Moments on Monday announced through its Facebook page the passing of Sam Butcher. He was 85.

"Although the sorrow is great, it is our prayer that the appreciation and celebration of his legacy be even greater – the legacy of his glory-filled life, the countless blessings he bestowed upon the millions of lives he touched, and the incredible fulfillment of his life’s mission: to share God’s gift of love with the world," the Facebook post reads.

Precious Moments, known for its inspirational and spiritual figures, was started by Butcher in the 1970s, according to the company's website. The company additionally offers Disney-branded merchandise, apparel and other products.

The Precious Moments Chapel started by Butcher also operates in Carthage.
