Rebar Kitchen & Taproom
A pair of food industry veterans teamed up to open Rebar Kitchen & Taproom on May 5 near the intersection of Battlefield Road and Campbell Avenue. Jeff White and R.J. Harris, via Whiskey Drink LLC, own the business at 2902 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. D, in the Imperial Plaza shopping center. The 40-employee Rebar fills 3,850 square feet in the shopping center’s space formerly occupied by Tyme Out Sports Bar and Grill, which White said shuttered several years ago. Startup costs were roughly $40,000, White said, adding he and Harris signed a three-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Ngo Properties LLC. Rebar’s menu includes burgers, pizza, char-grilled oysters, pastas and appetizers such as duck bacon wontons and prime rib rolls. Prices range $9-$23. White, who has over 20 years of food service experience, said he and Harris met last year when working at The Jackson Grille LLC in Marshfield. Harris said he’s worked in restaurants for eight years, including The Roost Bar & Grill and Big Whiskey’s.

May 2 marked the grand opening for the new $6.5 million, 50,100-square-foot headquarters of 27North Inc. at 4202 W. Kearney St., near Springfield-Branson National Airport. The company plans to invest $400,000 and create 32 new jobs over the next five years with the launch of a new line of trucks, according to Missouri Department of Economic Development officials.

The first brick-and-mortar shop for Springfield Trading Co., which produces small-batch hot sauces and seasonings, launched May 9. Owner Anthony Brent said the 1,600-square-foot shop in the Executive Office Center at 225 E. Sunshine St., Ste. 102, doubles as a new headquarters for the company he launched in 2022. The venture’s previous office space was at 1920 E. Meadowmere St., Stes. 8A-8B. Staff has doubled to four for the business, Brent said, adding the shop sells all 11 of the company’s hot sauces and its two dry seasonings, as well as branded merchandise. Relocation and renovation costs were roughly $15,000, he said, declining to disclose lease terms. The shop also carries other local products, such as rubs and seasonings from J.B.’s Gourmet Spice Blends and coffee from Roast of the Week LLC. Brent started Springfield Trading Co. two years ago, turning his hobby into a business venture. Company revenue in 2023 was $179,000. He said Springfield Trading Co. products are now in 17 states.
