Interpres Building Solutions LLC gave former Springfield Fire Station No. 6 new life with the April 1 opening of its new office. The electrical, mechanical and plumbing engineering firm purchased the 1201 S. Campbell Ave. building from the city of Springfield for $160,000 in 2018. The city ceased regular operations at the fire station in 2002, leaving the building in “very rough shape” when Interpres purchased it, said Brad Palmer, who co-owns the firm with Tanner Dowling. The six-employee company moved from 1722 S. Glenstone Ave. Palmer said Interpres officials were drawn to the architecture of the building, located north of Parkview High School, adding renovations took about five months. He declined to disclose costs but previously told City Council the company planned to invest $150,000-$200,000 to remodel the interior.

Crave Cookie Dough
After beginning in downtown Springfield in May 2018, Crave Cookie Dough owners Dylan Collins and Maggie West added a south-side store Sept. 6 in Magers Crossing. At 2100 W. Republic Road, Ste. 128, the business fills 1,380 square feet in the newest addition of the shopping center. BP Builders LLC completed infill work, with design services from H Design Group LLC. Collins said store equipment, including a floor mixer, a commercial countertop mixer, standard mixers and an oven, cost around $30,000. The business partners signed a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Magers Management Co. Collins said the edible cookie dough menu offerings on the south-side are the same as those at 325 E. Walnut St., Ste. 102. Both feature cookie dough cups in brownie batter and wedding cake flavors, as well as shakes and dough bites.

Artistic Works by Lu LLC
After renting space in Springfield for three years, Kansas-based Artistic Works by Lu LLC opened a brick-and-mortar shop Sept. 5. Lu Knueven owns the 1,600-square foot women’s boutique at 3061 S. Fremont Ave. and her sister, Carla Mendenhall, manages the store. Selling jewelry, clothing and accessories, prices generally range $10-$100, Knueven said. She has owned and operated an Artistic Works by Lu shop in Leavenworth, Kansas, since 2007. Prior to opening the Queen City storefront, Knueven rented a 17-by-17-foot space since 2016 in Harrison House Market to test the market. Startup costs were approximately $40,000, Knueven said, adding she’s on a three-year lease for $2,300 per month with Branson Retail Investments LLC. A license bureau office with the Missouri Department of Revenue previously occupied the space.
