Springfield, MO
Since 1973, Springfield based accounting firm Elliott, Robinson & Company, LLP, Certified Public Accountants has been in a constant state of growth and is always adding passionate and skilled professionals to the team as services expand.
A culture of family and fun
Though it was a conscious decision to nurture a family-oriented culture at Elliott, Robinson & Company, the relationships among team members also grow organically since team members inevitably spend a large amount of time together, not just during tax season, but throughout the year. “We refer to our team as the ERCO family,” said partner Laurie Bebee. “We know each other on a personal level. We spend far too much time together not to enjoy each other’s company.”
“We take care of each other as people, it’s not just an employer/employee relationship,” said partner Carrie Brown. “We’re friends who are moving through life together and we would never sacrifice that culture for growth.”
“It’s no secret that public accounting is hard and we work long hours, but we do have a lot of fun,” said Bebee. During tax season, lunch is provided to the team and every other week there are things like onsite food trucks, coffee trucks, smoothie deliveries, bingo parties and scavenger hunts. “Even if it’s just a few minutes, we get to relax and enjoy some time together. Those little things really add up.”
Community focus
At any given time, there are several CPAs at Elliott, Robinson & Company who serve on boards of local nonprofits. There is also a high level of involvement on industry-specific boards. “We want to be advocates for our profession while honing our skills to provide nonprofits support with board representation at the same time,” said Bebee.”
Opportunities for growth
There are also numerous opportunities for career growth and development at the firm. New team members have the opportunity to have client contact from the very start of their tenure, something that is a bit unusual for an accounting firm. Also unusual is that team members are rewarded with extra compensation and/or PTO for any overtime worked, which is not standard in the public accounting industry.
“We consciously try to create an atmosphere where it’s fun to come to work every day and everyone feels appreciated,” said Bebee. “As the firm grows, we know we want to keep that atmosphere.” “Our people really are our most valuable asset,” said Brown. “Without our team, we aren’t able to do what we do every day.”
