Marshfield restaurant closing after a year in business

Posted online

A Marshfield restaurant that opened a year ago is shuttering.

The Jackson Grille, 301 S. Clay St., announced on Facebook yesterday that June 1 would be the prime rib and steakhouse restaurant's last day in business.

The post cited health issues for co-owners Randy and Jan Clair.

"Although there have been many challenges with the restaurant this past year, our fantastic staff has addressed and overcome those challenges like the professional team they truly are. However, there have been some challenges in the past year that Jan and I can only work on personally," the post reads. "Jan and I both have developed some health issues that has our doctors demanding that we slow down. For the last year, with three businesses, we have worked an average of 72 hours a week, and at our age that's just too much."

The Clairs, along with co-owner Jeff White, launched The Jackson Grille LLC in April 2023 in a more than 150-year-old Marshfield building that's largely been used as a house of worship, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Before the restaurant, the building most recently was used by The Foundation Church of Marshfield.

The Facebook post from The Jackson Grille also said the owners would consider selling the business.
