Labor Secretary Acosta resigns

U.S. Labor Secretary Alex Acosta announced his resignation.

Acosta has faced criticism over his handling of the 2008 plea deal for financier Jeffrey Epstein in a child sex case. Acosta was the U.S. attorney in Miami in 2008, when he oversaw a deal that sent Epstein to prison for 13 months. Much of that time was spent on work release.

"I do not think it is right and fair ... to have Epstein as the focus rather than the incredible economy that we have today," Acosta said. "It would be selfish for me to stay in this position and continue talking about a case that's 12 years old."
